Shared Attributes: Perdita Weeks and Her Beloved Character Juliet Higgins

While Juliet Higgins and Perdita Weeks may seem like very different people on the surface, they share a number of surprising similarities. From attending all-girls boarding schools to their love of adventure and their commitment to strong female characters, these two women are proof that sometimes life really does imitate art.

Juliet Higgins, the British former MI6 agent turned private investigator, is a beloved character on the popular television series Magnum PI, which premiered in 2018. Perdita Weeks brings her to life on the screen, and while there are many differences between the two, there are also some surprising similarities.

One of the most interesting similarities between Juliet Higgins and Perdita Weeks is that both attended all-girls boarding schools. Higgins mentions her time at a college only for girls in the show, while Weeks attended Roedean School in Brighton, England – the Roedean School has a reputation for providing an excellent education to their students and fostering a sense of independence and self-reliance.

Another commonality between the two is their passion for adventure and excitement. Higgins may have left her life as a spy behind, but she still craves action and is always up for a challenge. Weeks, too, has a thirst for adventure and has taken on a variety of daring roles throughout her acting career.

She’s played everything from a vampire hunter to a medieval princess, showing a range and fearlessness that mirrors Higgins’ own intrepid nature. Perdita does most of the adventure scenes without a stunt double (unless there are risks or the scene is too complicated, so they don’t let her do it). In her free time in Hawaii, she enjoys hiking and climbing.

In addition to their shared experiences, both Higgins and Weeks are strong and capable women who defy traditional gender roles. Higgins is a skilled investigator and martial artist who is not afraid to speak her mind or take charge when the situation calls for it. Weeks, too, has played strong female characters throughout her career and has spoken out about the importance of women being represented in the media. Additionally, Perdita is always advocating for women’s rights in pursuit of gender equality and other issues, as well as social and environmental causes.

Some similarities between the two:

  • Both love animals! Higgins has her Dobermans (Zeus and Apollo), but she has also shown affection for cats. In one episode, she mentioned being a “cat lady” until she met Z and A. Actress Perdita Weeks has a kitten and used to share many photos with him while she was in the UK, as well as posting pictures with her family’s dogs.
  • Both Higgins and Perdita follow a meatless diet. Remember Higgins’ vegan bacons? Or the plant-based hamburger served to her at La Mariana? Perdita follows a mostly vegetarian diet, with the exception of seafood and fish (just like Higgins, as seen in Season 1, Episode 18).
  • Both prefer coffee over the traditional tea, famous in British culture. Perdita never said she doesn’t like tea, just that she prefers coffee (when asked on Twitter what she preferred, she responded “Coffee is queen!”).
  • Perdita knows how to ride horses, play tennis, and fence, just like Higgins.
  • Both have tattoos that are not visible.
  • Higgins and Perdita both love a good glass of wine.
  • Both Perdita Weeks and Juliet Higgins have names that are known from literary works by Shakespeare. Juliet, from Romeo and Juliet. Perdita, from The Winter’s Tale. Her name is a Shakespearean invention for an abandoned baby in The Winter’s Tale, and Perdita’s sense of loss has always been off-putting to parents.

Finally, both Higgins and Weeks have a deep sense of loyalty to their friends and loved ones. Higgins may seem aloof and unapproachable at times, but she will do whatever it takes to protect those she cares about. Weeks, too, has spoken about the importance of friendship and the value of the people in her life.

These are some of the similarities between actress Perdita Weeks and the character Juliet Higgins. It’s important to note that, although there are similarities, they are distinct individuals, and Perdita Weeks’ performance contributes to shaping the character according to the vision of the series’ writers and producers.
