Making a Statement with Juliet Higgins’s Necklaces: The Message Behind the Accessory

Since the promo for today’s episode (12) of Magnum P.I. has all your attention on a necklace… How about an article discussing Juliet Higgins’ necklaces? And below, we’ll tell you where to find to buy the exactly necklace that Juliet is wearing.

First, it’s important to clarify that to analyze the necklace styles, we need to analyze the character’s style as a whole. We did that! But, that topic will be covered in another article… In short, according to the seven universal styles, we’d say Juliet falls between Boho and Romantic.

The Boho style has strong characteristics of romanticism and even some elements of the elegant style. In our analysis of the character, both styles are intertwined. Notice the shoe in the first photo: it has a rounded toe, classic of the romantic style. These lines convey messages of sweetness and softness, and therefore, are directly linked to femininity. It’s also important to note that the costume designers typically change the character’s style as the story progresses. Clothes help us express ourselves, speak volumes about our personality, and the message we want to convey. We’ll discuss this in more detail in another topic… for now, let’s return to the necklaces.

During the first season, we see Juliet primarily wearing metallic necklaces in a golden tone.

Because it’s a metal with high commercial value, gold and gold pieces, in general, are more elegant and sophisticated, which reflects Juliet’s personality.

  • Accessories in silver also evoke refinement and sophistication but also lean towards modernity.

An important point to consider is personal coloring (here, we’re talking about actress Perdita Weeks). People with warm or warm-neutral skin tones benefit more from this type of metal (gold).

That said, we can see that the accessories are subtle and minimalist: a delicate chain and a pendant in a geometric shape characterized by straight lines, precise angles, and symmetrical forms. These characteristics convey a message of order and balance, making these types of jewelry pieces refined and well-structured.

The necklace that stands out the most, and with a clear intention, it’s the necklace Juliet received from Richard (the first pic, above). Even though it’s delicate, the pendant stands out in the visual.

In the second season of Magnum P.I., we see a more open and relaxed Juliet (compared to the Juliet of the first season).

We see more jeans, tank tops… moving away from the formality of tailored clothing with straight lines. This is also reflected in her jewelry, where she plays with layering necklaces, including chokers and even productions with three chains. The choker (pictures below) draws a lot of attention to her face.

In a harmonious combination, we see that the necklace (picture 1) has several pendants that give movement to the visual, making it more relaxed and fun.

  • The pearl necklace combines femininity, romanticism, and sophistication.

Here, we see the presence of the Boho style. As we explained earlier, Boho has been updated, allowing for the fusion of romantic, modern, and even elegant elements. That’s the case with these necklaces that appear in the second season:

Look how the colors of the stones in the necklace enhance Perdita's eyes here.

They’re composed of gemstones and pendants with symbolism (this one – pic 2 – seems to have a flower engraving), referencing ethnic elements and moving away from the traditional style.

They’re more informal, seem to have natural stones, more mystical, giving a mysterious air to the visual.

It’s important to remember that the entire outfit’s composition is what will convey the message of that moment, so you also have to analyze the hairstyle, clothes… All of that will generate a message.

A good example is this totally informal and fun look! The necklace is colorful, too.

In my personal opinion, the second season was the season that delivered the most complete and well-produced looks, without forgetting the accessories that make a total difference in the character’s identity.

In the third season, we don't see Juliet wearing necklaces as much.

Additionally, in this season, she appears to be wearing more formal shirts, giving off a more serious air, but which can also convey a message of femininity and delicacy, especially when combined with soft accessories or without them.

In the fourth season, we have Juliet wearing lace and floral prints, much more than seen before, and one of the most common messages that floral prints convey in a visual is that of romance and delicacy.

We also see other accessories, like the tiara (pic below), making the look even more feminine. That must be why the necklaces are so subtle!

  • When the subject of the episode is more serious, we notice a darker tone in the clothes and straight lines.

When there is a scene at La Mariana, with a more elaborate look, that’s when we see the presence of necklaces with gemstones (which are our favorites!).

In the fifth season, where we can see so far, she wore a very discreet chain (a bit of a choker) without pendants in almost all productions.

Delicate necklaces with small pendants. The floral prints of the clothes demonstrate a lot of romance, light makeup enhancing natural beauty… We believe it’s to highlight the face and expressions, that image of being in love with a unique sparkle.

Juliet doesn’t use many accessories in her productions, rarely a bracelet. But just with necklaces, you can see a difference that this accessory brings to the production, helping to convey more personality.

Speaking of that… Whose necklace do you think Rick and TC found in Magnum’s house?
